In 1990, five friends with established careers in public affairs, founded what was then called The Gallatin Group. They named the firm after Albert Gallatin who, among many accomplishments in public life, helped make the Lewis & Clark Expedition a reality serving as Treasury Secretary for President Thomas Jefferson. In Montana, where the firm had an office for many years, there is a county, river and National Forest all named after Albert Gallatin. His statue can be found outside the Treasury Department in Washington, D.C.
Over the decades, Gallatin has evolved along with the politics and economy of the Pacific Northwest. Political icons like former Idaho Governor and Interior Secretary Cecil Andrus and former Portland Mayor Vera Katz served as senior advisors and we are proud that dozens of former Gallatin professionals have graduated to positions of leadership in other businesses and organizations.
