It's What We Do

What exactly does Gallatin Public Affairs do? People often ask. Its a great question. So we thought we'd answer, one email at a time.

We do issue advocacy

Eastern Oregon families faced an urgent threat to their livelihoods when special interest groups began lobbying President Obama to declare a massive new monument area in Malheur County. Working with the Owyhee Basin Stewardship Coalition, we launched Our Land Our Voice, a 12-month campaign featuring advertising, website and social media, grassroots advocacy and online activation, a field sign program and lobbying activities to oppose a monument without a vote of Congress.

Our Land, Our Voice raised awareness of the monument threat, delivered more than 18,000 messages to state and federal elected officials, built a diverse coalition of business, agriculture and political leaders and secured near universal editorial commentary against a presidential monument declaration without a vote of Congress.

Despite declaring a record-breaking number of national monuments – more than all of his predecessors combined – President Obama left office without designating a monument in Malheur County.
