Matt Friesen brings more than a decade of public policy and political achievement to Gallatin’s government relations team. An associate who works in our Portland and Salem offices, Matt is a skilled operative who draws on his experience inside the Capitol and as a campaign manager to help our clients succeed.
Prior to joining Gallatin, Matt was the Legislative Policy Director for the Senate Republican Caucus, where he oversaw all policy development, with an emphasis on economic development, education, health care and energy. Matt has also led several successful multi-million dollar political campaigns across Oregon.
Earlier in his career, Matt honed his policy and communications skills at the Portland Development Commission and at a research firm specializing in energy projects. He also spent a year abroad teaching English to students in South Korea.
Matt is a native Oregonian, and he earned his Bachelor of Arts degree from Gordon College in the Boston area. Outside of work he enjoys creative writing and combat sports.
“You can’t make good policy without smart politics – and vice versa. Having witnessed this credo at all levels of government, I’m able to help our clients navigate difficult political environments to achieve their policy objectives. Inside the Capitol and on the campaign trail, I learned how to anticipate opposition and overcome it. That’s how I help our clients find success too.”
