For more than 30 years, Marc Johnson has helped shape public policy in Idaho and counseled clients on issues and politics across the Pacific Northwest. With bona fides as an award-winning journalist and senior advisor to Idaho’s longest serving governor, Marc has mastered the communications art of connecting clients’ key messages with their target audience.
Previously, Marc led the firm’s Boise office for 18 years and served as company president for five years. Prior to joining Gallatin, he served as Press Secretary and Chief of Staff to Cecil D. Andrus, Idaho’s only four-term Governor. His years of experience in journalism, state government and state politics mean that nearly every major issue – and plenty of minor ones too – have crossed his desk, from higher education to health care and energy. Simply put, Marc Johnson understands how things get done in Idaho.
Marc authors his own blog – Many Things Considered – where he regularly shares insights and analysis on the news of the day, often making the connection between current events and newsmakers, and events in history. Marc is a sought-after public speaker, lecturer, emcee and forum moderator. Previously, Marc produced and hosted award-winning public affairs and documentary television programs.
Marc earned a Bachelor of Science degree from South Dakota State University and has chaired the boards of the Idaho Humanities Council and the Federation of State Humanities Councils. He also serves as president of The Andrus Center for Public Policy at Boise State University. He and his wife have two sons.
“No problem in the public arena ever gets solved without a smart strategy and a good plan. I start solving problems by understanding the situation – the possibilities and the challenges – and press hard to identify what the best outcome looks like. I call upon more than three decades of public affairs experience gained by helping twice elect a governor, leading his staff, and helping clients manage complex issues, to handle crises and solve problems.”
